Kosovo Tensions: Serbia Accuses Kosovo of 'Unilateral' Actions

Serbia's Minister of Interior Accuses Kosovo of 'Unilateral' Actions

Serbia's Interior Minister, Aleksandar Vulin, has accused Kosovo of taking "unilateral" actions that could escalate tensions between the two countries.

Vulin's comments came after Kosovo's government announced plans to deploy its own police force in the Serb-majority north of the country.

Serbia has condemned the move, saying it is a violation of a 2013 agreement between the two countries.

Kosovo's Government Defends Deployment

Kosovo's government has defended the deployment, saying it is necessary to ensure law and order in the north of the country.

Kosovo's Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has said that the police force will not be used to provoke or intimidate Serbs.

However, Serbs in the north of Kosovo have expressed concern about the deployment, saying they fear it could lead to violence.

Russia Warns of 'Dangerous' Situation

Russia has warned that the situation in Kosovo is "dangerous" and called on both sides to exercise restraint.

Russia's Foreign Ministry has said that it is concerned about the potential for violence and called on the international community to help resolve the crisis.

The United States and the European Union have also expressed concern about the situation in Kosovo and urged both sides to avoid actions that could lead to violence.

Background to the Kosovo Conflict

Kosovo was a province of Serbia until 2008, when it declared independence following a war in the late 1990s.

Serbia has never recognized Kosovo's independence, and the two countries have been in a state of tension ever since.

The Serb-majority north of Kosovo has been a particular flashpoint, with Serbs refusing to recognize the authority of the Kosovo government.
