'Based on a True Story' Season 2: Annie Weisman to Take Over as Showrunner

Production to Resume Next Month

Dark Comedy Thriller Series Renewed for Second Season

The comedy thriller series "Based on a True Story" will resume production next month with Annie Weisman as the new showrunner, Sky has announced. The dark comedy series, starring Kaley Cuoco, Chris Messina, and Tom Bateman, will return for a second season after an explosive first season that left viewers on the edge of their seats.

Weisman, known for her work on "Desperate Housewives" and "The Path," will take over the reins from Craig Rosenberg, who created the series and served as showrunner for the first season. Weisman brings a wealth of experience to the role, having also written and produced the hit shows "Ugly Betty" and "The Newsroom."

The second season of "Based on a True Story" will continue to follow the lives of Ted (Messina) and Miranda (Cuoco), a couple whose lives are turned upside down when their neighbor's house blows up. As they investigate the mysterious explosion, they uncover a web of secrets and lies that could have deadly consequences.

In an interview with Deadline, Weisman said she is "excited" to join the team and "explore the dark and twisted world" of "Based on a True Story." She added that she plans to "dig deeper into the characters" and "take the story in some unexpected directions."

The first season of "Based on a True Story" received critical acclaim for its clever writing, suspenseful plot, and strong performances from Cuoco, Messina, and Bateman. The series has also been praised for its unique blend of comedy and drama, often leaving viewers laughing one minute and on the edge of their seats the next.

The second season of "Based on a True Story" is expected to premiere on Sky in 2024.
