Leipzig took an early lead in the 16th minute through Christopher Nkunku, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by the hosts. Dortmund responded well and equalized just four minutes later with a brilliant strike from Julian Brandt.
The second half continued to be intense, with both teams creating several chances. Leipzig regained the lead in the 54th minute when Dominik Szoboszlai's long-range effort found its way into the net. Dortmund pushed forward in search of an equalizer and found it in the 72nd minute through Youssoufa Moukoko.
However, Leipzig's resilience shone through in the dying minutes. In the 90th minute, Timo Werner netted the winner from close range, giving the visitors all three points. The victory keeps Leipzig in the title race, while Dortmund's lead at the top of the table has been reduced to two points.
